Scholarships and Financial Aid

St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine is proud to offer financial support via grants and scholarships for eligible DVM program participants. This is part of our ongoing commitment to enriching the educational journeys of future veterinarians and animal health leaders.

In addition, DVM students from Canada are eligible for government financial aid (excluding those from ON, BC and NL). See the section below for more information.

Candidates*:Citizens, dual citizens, or permanent residents of the United States and Canada.
Award Amount**:Based upon academic metrics outlined in the grid below, an award under the Academic Scholarship is distributed in a manner and over a timeframe determined by the Scholarship Committee. Amounts applied against tuition only.

Faculty Scholarship
– Based on academic credentials and approval of the Scholarship Committee.
– $25,000

Provost Scholarship
– GPA 3.00 – 3.19.
– $25,000

Chancellor Scholarship
– GPA 3.20 – 3.39.
– $35,000

Dean’s Scholarship
– GPA 3.40 – 3.49.
– $40,000

President’s Scholarship
– GPA of 3.50 – 3.69.
– $50,000

Future Veterinarian Scholarship
– GPA of 3.70+.
– $65,000

*Effective for students matriculating during or after May 2025.

Candidates*:Citizens, dual citizens, or permanent residents of the United States and Canada.
Academic Criteria:Candidates will be reviewed based upon a combination of several criteria that have been submitted with their application. This includes undergraduate GPA, work history, and recommendations.
Award Amount**:$10,000 upon acceptance into the program. The award is disbursed over 10 semesters and directed against tuition only.
Ongoing Eligibility:After matriculation a student must remain in good academic standing and progressing in a timely manner (no remediation) toward completion of the program.
Awards:Candidates will have three business days to accept the award by notifying the Scholarship Committee at scholarship@StMatthews.edu. Scholarship Awards will only be disbursed as a credit against tuition.

*Transfer Students – individuals who attended the MD program at another school
**Effective for students matriculating during or after May 2025.

Candidates*: All accepted students who do not possess U.S. or Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status.
Award Amount:A $60,000 grant prorated over the 10 semesters of the DVM program.
Ongoing Eligibility:Following enrollment, a student must maintain strong academic standing and progress in a timely manner toward program completion without any remediation.
Awards:Scholarship Awards will only be disbursed as a credit against tuition.

*Effective for students matriculating during or after May 2025.

Candidates*: All accepted students.
Award Amount:A $5,000 grant for new students only.
Ongoing Eligibility:Following acceptance, a student should make a deposit payment within 5 business days.
Awards:Scholarship awards will only be disbursed as a credit against tuition.

As part of St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine’s commitment to the country and citizens of the Cayman Islands, one Basic Science tuition and fees scholarship is offered to a qualified Caymanian citizen each calendar year beginning in the January term. This scholarship is awarded to a qualified applicant who meets all the admission requirements, shows exceptional promise for veterinary studies, is a current resident of the Cayman Islands and is dedicated to delivering veterinary care to the country of the Cayman Islands.

Applicants must submit the following information at the time of application:

  • Letter of request to the Scholarship Review Board explaining the desire for consideration. This letter should include (but not be limited to) examples of tenacity, compassion and commitment to helping others and animals.
  • Proof of current Caymanian citizenship.

Applications for the Cayman Islands Scholarship must be received prior to November 10.

Students may apply for up to 52 weeks of financial assistance annually. Canadian students should contact their individual province directly for information regarding additional requirements. St. Matthew’s University school code is: ZUCK.

To apply for a credit based loan from Royal Bank of Canada or the National Bank of Canada, Canadian students accepted to St. Matthew’s University may go to any bank branch office with their acceptance letter.
