Studying on Grand Cayman

Lean into Island Life

Grand Cayman has a world-class infrastructure, home to hundreds of restaurants, numerous U.S.-style supermarkets, movie theatres, exquisite hotels and many opportunities for snorkelling, dining, sightseeing and other leisurely activities. These activities add to your student experience while pursuing your DVM at St. Matthew’s University.

Explore underwater wonders

From clear blue waters to vibrant coral reefs, the island offers an underwater adventure home to fascinating marine life and shipwrecks as well as unique snorkelling experiences in Bioluminescent Bay.

Discover island treasures

There’s lots to explore on the island including the iconic Seven Mile Beach, the Mastic Trail, Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and more. Delve into the rich history of the island by visiting the National Museum or Pedro St. James Castle to uncover hidden relics of the island.

A leading financial hub

With an infrastructure comparable to the US, and with the US dollar accepted everywhere, Grand Cayman Island is a stable financial hub with one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. It’s the fifth largest financial centre in the world with a thriving tourist industry, making it an excellent place to study and explore.

Embrace Caribbean nightlife

Grand Cayman comes alive at night with events and entertainment catering to a range of interests. Relax with a drink and live music at one of the many beach bars and lounges, dine by the sea at Calico Jack’s or The Wharf or enjoy a serene evening on one of the island’s sunset cruises.

Find your adventure

Grand Cayman has a multitude of leisure activities bound to make anyone feel relaxed and rejuvenated (even hard-working veterinary students!). Make time to unwind by paddleboarding along calm waters, kayaking through mangroves or simply relaxing with a book on one of the many beaches.

Just a plane ride away

You won’t feel too far from home on Grand Cayman. As part of the British West Indies, the island’s national language is English and the culture combines British civility, American efficiency, and Caribbean charm. But if you do feel a little homesick, you are less than an hour away from Miami, or you can jump on direct international flights to Atlanta, Chicago, New York and about 20 other major cities.
