American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)

St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine charter qualified it to seek listing with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), which in turn allows our graduates to register with the Educational Committee of Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG). ECFVG certification allows our graduates to be licensed in the United States, Canada, and other countries accepting ECFVG certification. St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine received its AVMA listing in December 2005.

In January 2024, St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine initiated the process to pursue full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE). This voluntary process underscores the commitment of St. Matthew’s University to providing the best experience to our students and will continue to ensure a smooth transition into the veterinary workforce in Canada and the United States, reducing especially the financial burdens that accompany graduate education. One of the subsequent benefits of AVMA COE accreditation is that our students will have the opportunity to qualify for U.S. federally subsidized student loans.

Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC)

St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine is a Member Institution of the AAVMC.

Cayman Islands

The Ministry of Health Services, Agriculture, Aviation, and Works of the Cayman Islands has granted St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine a full charter.

American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB)

The American Association of Veterinary State Boards has established a program for evaluating international veterinary education called the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education equivalence (PAVE). The PAVE provides a pathway for graduates of SMUSVM to be licensed and practice Veterinary Medicine in the United States, Canada and other countries. Students may choose either or both of the ECFVG and PAVE pathways to licensure. You may learn more about the PAVE program at: https://www.aavsb.org/licensure-assistance/international-pathway/check-your-jurisdiction/
