St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine Launches Pursuit of AVMA COE Accreditation

St. Matthew’s University (SMU) School of Veterinary Medicine is pleased to announce its pursuit of full American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE) accreditation.

St. Matthew’s University (SMU) School of Veterinary Medicine, which for nearly twenty years has successfully graduated hundreds of veterinarians practicing in the United States, Canada and other countries, is pleased to announce its pursuit of full American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE) accreditation. The application process for full accreditation from the AVMA COE was initiated in January 2024.

This voluntary process underscores the commitment of St. Matthew’s University to providing the best possible experience for our students. Once achieved, this new accreditation status will further ensure that our students experience a smooth transition into the veterinary workforce in Canada and the United States, and reduce the financial burdens that accompany graduate education. One of the subsequent benefits of AVMA COE accreditation is that our students will have the opportunity to qualify for U.S. federally subsidized student loans. In addition, upon receiving full AVMA COE accreditation, prospective SMU veterinary students will be able to apply via the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) common application.

Dr. Brendan Lee, Executive Dean of St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, stated: “Since acquiring St. Matthew’s University, Global University Systems have made a number of strategic investments to improve the experience of students, faculty, and staff. The recent decision to pursue full accreditation from the AVMA Council on Education is compelling evidence of our ongoing commitment to excellence. It is an exciting time to be a member of the St. Matthew’s community!”
