Loop Abroad Partnership Agreement

Experience the Thailand College Pre-Vet Medicine with SMUSVM program.

St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SMUSVM) and Loop Abroad are excited to announce the establishment of this new partnership, which will support a special session of the Thailand College Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program

This two-week pre-veterinary opportunity is Loop Abroad’s signature program, and is being presented in conjunction with SMUSVM. Participants will visit Thailand and experience what it’s like to work in a small animal clinic and elephant sanctuary. This is incredibly beneficial for aspiring veterinarians, as they will develop a variety of clinical skills, including blood draws, suturing, skin scrapes and assisting in spay and neuter surgeries. Off hours offer their own enrichment as well, with time spent exploring local markets and having fun doing activities such as zip-lining.

Thanks to our partnership with this exciting program, participants will be given a special SMUSVM welcome pack, receive a letter of introduction from Loop Abroad to our admissions team (describing strengths, passions and performance), connect with practicing SMUSVM alumni and become eligible for a $10,000 USD partnership scholarship if they are accepted into our DVM program. It’s the perfect opportunity for future veterinary students to experience what it’s like working with real animals, develop their skills and learn about St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine.

“We are excited to share the Thailand College Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program with a new audience and look forward to this partnership with SMUSVM,” said Jane Stine, co-founder and Managing Director of Loop Abroad. “When students get the chance to study abroad with Loop Abroad, they not only build professional connections and hands-on skills while learning from experts in the field, but they also get to experience study abroad and look at veterinary medicine through different cultural lenses. Our alumni often find that this experience helps them understand more about their future career, and for many of them, it ignites a passion for travel and study abroad that they may continue during vet school.”

“Being involved in veterinary school admissions for the past 20 years, I have become very familiar with the Loop Abroad programs and the amazing animal training, education and life experiences students receive during these trips,” said Jeffrey Bates, Vice President of Field Recruitment and Business Development at GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools. “I find students applying to veterinary school who have attended a Loop Abroad trip are highly sought after, as they demonstrate a passion for learning and exploring new words that make them stand out from the pack. I am so excited that St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine is partnering with Loop Abroad and their trips to Thailand, and look forward to working closely with the entire Loop Abroad team!”

Established in 2005, SMUSVM proudly provides education and training for curious, collaborative and caring future veterinarians. Our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program allows students to graduate in just over three years, after 2+ years on safe and modern Grand Cayman (part of the Cayman Islands) in the Basic Science program and then one year of Clinical Medicine rotations in the U.S. and Canada. Thanks to our strong curriculum, dedicated faculty and individualized support, students achieve success on the NAVLE exam and go on to practice in the U.S, Canada and internationally.
